Volodymyr Lytvyn: Introduction of Political Democracy into the Economic Sector is a Key Issue

On Wednesday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, took part in the 35th Meeting of the Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

The Head of the Parliament stated that Ukraine faced a paradox, when "on the one hand, the reforms are long-awaited, but on the other hand, they are being refuted." He reported on actions taken to facilitate adoption of a new tax code.

He believes that this complicated issue should be settled by December, so that a new budget is adopted on a new legislative foundation.

However, V.Lytvyn is convinced that the reform should not be top-down, since it signals that ‘the country is geared to yesterday.´ "The crucial task is to arrange the conditions to reveal the capacities of every individual," he declared.

V.Lytvyn underscored that the country shall work, not live with the promises from one election campaign till the next one. "We have learnt to hold transparent elections, now we should also work transparently," he stated.

According to the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, "political democracy should be introduced into the economic sector to realize the potential of Ukraine." "However, it is not easy. We have faced the fact that the presidential campaign continues with the political war," he admitted. He explains it by the fact that "politics provides access to the economy, although 80% of Ukrainian economy is in a private ownership."

V.Lytvyn believes that Ukraine should get an efficient owner and protect the working public. However, he warned against re-privatization or seizure of ownership. "It is necessary to observe the rules set by the supreme body, The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. I hope that Ukraine´s future is optimistic," he concluded.
